Joe Mixon....meet your new boss. Jemal Singleton has been hired on as the Cincinnati Bengals running backs coach. Coming over from Oakland he would be the second Raiders coach to jump ship and join the Cincy squad. Singleton has been coaching in the NFL since 2016 having been on the Indy staff as their backs coach prior to moving to Oakland. He did his time in the collegiate environment as well with the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Oklahoma State Cowboys Serving as the running backs coach for both teams.
Singleton has an impressive resume in terms of places served as well as results by players. For example, while with the Colts he guided Frank Gore to two killer seasons amassing 1,986 yards total. In 2017 Gore had 961 yards but the next year he eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark being the first back to do this since Joseph Addai in 2007. Hell he was the first running back over thirty years old to rush for 1,000 on the Colts squad since John Riggins in 1984. Is this directly attributed to Jemal Singleton, who knows but it certainly helps his case.
With Joe Mixon coming off of a 1,168 yard season we would all love to see more of the same. On top of that Joe had nearly 300 yards receiving, eight touchdowns and averaged five yards a carry. Can Singleton build on this and improve our backfield? Only time will tell. But I do know that Mixon will continue to be an electric player to watch. Especially if Zach Taylor can build up the offensive line around him and Andy...
