Well ladies and gentlemen, the day has come. Our dog off leash has been put down. Vontaze Burfict has been released by the Cincinnati Bengals. This is bitter sweet for our team here at 4TH & CINCY. While his on field antics sometimes were the most frustrating thing in professional football you will not find another player that has the grit, tenacity and hate for the man across from him like King Tez. When Tez was in his prime he was the best linebacker in the NFL, try to argue that with us. As of late he has been slow, concussed and simply out of shape.
Burfict signed with the Bengals following the 2012 NFL Draft. He quickly proved he was a fucking force, campaign with arguably the best year of his career, recording 171 combined tackles, three sacks, six passes defensed and an interception in 2013. You cannot deny that he is a freak.
In his seven seasons, Burfict has recorded 604 combined tackles, 8.5 sacks, 28 passes defensed, five interceptions and made a Pro Bowl appearance in 2013. At just 28-years-old, there's no doubt he will have suitors on the open market. I hope that a team picks him up. I hope he has a very successful trouble free rest of his carrier. People in this town love or hate the guy. He is often the discussion of what is wrong with the team. People also forget however that for several years he was the heart and soul of this defense. He was the leader that existed to amp the D up and give them a killer mentality.
Football is a violent sport played by violent men, if you want it to be anything less you may want to go watch soccer. Vontaze is a rare and dying breed in the world of football. A warrior hell-bent on ridding the world of the man standing across the line from him. Football needs to be safe we can all agree on that. But it would be a disservice to rid the world of men with this mindset. Good luck to wherever you land King Tez, We love yah big guy.
