"There are a lot of pieces in place to lead us to really good football down the road" -Brian Callahan-
To dissect the enigma that was the Bengal's 2018 season would be an arduous task even the most versed football expert would shy away from. As a self-proclaimed Superfan I believe it is time to move on to 2019 and throw out the memory of the 2018 season like yesterday's trash. Once celebrated former coach Marvin Lewis has moved on and we have ushered in a new era for Cincinnati football. Shiny new Head Coach in Zac Taylor, new Offensive Coordinator Brian Callahan, Offensive Line Coach Jim Turner, Tight End Coach James Casey have been recruited to bring the teams offense to the next level during the 2019 season.
Callahan is coming off his 9th season in the NFL as a coach and has led the likes of Derrick Carr and Frat Stafford as Quarterbacks Coach. Derrick Carr obtaining a career high 4,000 plus yard season last year and Stafford hitting the NFL top 10 quarterback list in 2017 his results speak for themselves. Even if Carr cries on national television.
Callahan worked with the Mile-High Horses for 6 years winning 5 consecutive AFC West titles in Denver and appearing in 2 Superbowls, winning 1. "There are a lot of pieces in place to lead us to really good football down the road" Brian stated in a locker room interview. Overall the man's resume is as stacked as it can get. The dude is loaded for bear and coming into a Cincinnati roster ripe with talent.
Jim Turner steps up to take the wheel of our lackluster offensive line. The absolute shitshow brand of protection we had for the red rifle and our running game last year was as embarrassing as it gets. Turner comes to the Bengals having both collegiate and professional experience. Most recently he was head of the Texas A&M trenches.
In 2012-2013 Turner and Coach Taylor worked together on the Miami Dolphins staff. Now all that is good and well but the most badass part of Turner is that he is a former Devil Dog having served as a Marine Officer from 1990-1994. Hopefully he can bring the hate when whipping our cupcake front into shape.
James Casey most recently held a position on the University of Houston's staff. James also has some professional on the field experience having played Tight End for the Texans, Eagles and Broncos. The man even stepped in at the unicorn of a position of Fullback from time to time.
If his ability to coach does not get the job done all Casey will have to do is show up to practice in a cut off and he will intimidate half of the team with the gun show. We are talking cannons here people.
All in all, The Bengals offense has the potential to be absolutely electric in the 2019 season if the new staff has their way with it. We can all remove our faces from our hands and look forward to a new regime creating an explosive push the ball forward style of gameplay.
