We are going to do just a quick AAF update this time around to give the down and dirty of the league. The above listed scores came out of week fife competition and it would seem that the teams are starting to figure out how to play football. There is a drastic difference in week one play to week five. Quarterbacks and receivers seem to be slowly but surly getting on the same page. Offensive lines are starting to get a feel for their lefts and rights and are developing the ability to adjust to defensive blitzes. Defense themselves are starting to come together as one and work as cohesive fighting units. It is turning into what I would call B- football.
Orlando Apollos VS Birmingham Iron, (31-14)
It would seem that Birmingham just got their asses handed to them in this one. This is their second loss putting them at 3-2. Orlando looked like the juggernaut stomping on a cat. Their high powered offense took the game over and put the Iron to sleep pretty early on. Keith Price stepping in over Luis Perez was tossing the ball around putting up 234 yards for the Iron but it was just not enough. Trent Richardson didn't even top 50 yards per usual. Orlando s Garret Gilbert threw for 286 yards and two touchdowns in the crushing defeat. Both defenses played well but the Apollos just flat out played better.
Salt Lake City Stallions VS San Diego Fleet, ( 25-27)
Salt Lake City's Josh Woodrum fucking went off... The man threw for 380 yards and three touchdowns in the unfortunate loss but wow. They also has a 130 yard receiver in De'Mornay Pierson-El. Pretty lethal combination if you ask me. Fleet's Mike Bercovici was not to be out shined and and put up 308 yards. Not quite 380 but a hell of an effort. This was an absolute shootout and an exciting game to watch. Excited to see how both of these teams do in the next few weeks.
Memphis Express VS Atlanta Legend, (20-23)
Atlanta sucks agi...oh wait what? They won? Atlanta pulled out an upset in week five over the honestly lack luster Memphis team. Atlanta quarterback Aaron Murray tossed up 306 yards 89 of which went to WR Seantarvius Jones. Tyson Grahm Jr. had an athletic interception helping the Legend out in the first win of the season. Memphis Zach Mettenberger had a wishy washy performance only throwing for 181 yards. Memphis's defense was not very pretty either. They seemed to be a play behind every possession they were on the field. The two least exciting teams in the league and the result was just that... not very exciting.
San Diego Commanders VS Arizona Hotshots, (29-25)
These are two of the best teams in the league right now and the game was a great showing of that. Both quarterbacks, John Wolford of Arizona and former Bengals Logan Woodside threw for nearly 300 yards a pop. The Commanders defense stepped up big and pulled in three interceptions which ultimately assisted in their close but sure win over the Hotshots. These two teams will be sniffing out whatever the AAF version of the Superbowl is so watch them closely as the season progresses.
Overall we are doing our best to follow the AAF here at 4TH & CINCY. It is not the NFL and it never will be but it is football all the same. Our updates will come as soon as we are able to kick them out post weekend games. We hope you enjoy them as much as we love have year round football. Until next time....
