The Alliance of America Football League starts up this evening with the San Antonio Commanders taking on the San Diego Fleet. I cannot think of a better way to cure the post Super Bowl depression than to watch more football. Even if it is potentially second rate play with crazy rules we are not used to.

Breaking down some of the rosters you see some former NFL players and college guys who just didn't quite make it. on a few of the rosters Bengals are popping up. a couple in starting jobs. We are going to break down these former players and see how they fare in the starting "pro" debuts.

///Disclaimer///.... Some of these guys never left the Bengals practice squad or didn't even make the team. They still touched to organization in some way or another. We also may miss some that are in the AAF. Don't bite our heads off.. We are hitting a just few to preview the new league.

1. Christian Hackenberg just recently was released from the Bengals practice squad. He played for the Jets as well. He will take the field as the starting quarterback of the Memphis Express. The team in the AAF that is geographically closest to Cincinnati. So I guess if we picked an AAF team it would be them? Hell I don't know. We will see if he if he can "hack" (shitty joke I know) in this new league as a starter.

2. Logan Woodside is taking the reigns of the San Antonio Commanders Offense. Woodside was with the Bengals this past season drafted in the seventh round 249th overall. Cincy waived him last September though due to lack of effort and off the field antics it would seem. Logan got into some legal trouble after throwing back a few and deciding to drive a car resulting in a DUI. Hopefully all of that is worked out and he can lead the Commanders to a good season.

3. Josh Johnson was a Bengal for roughly a year from March of 2013 to May of 2014. He is currently the Washington Redskins quarterback but says he still wants to hop into the AAF and play. I remember watching him take the ball for 43 yards once against the Falcons. Lets see if he can carry that into Washington and whatever AAF team he may wind up on down the road.

4. Derron Smith is a former Cincinnati safety who will be joining Logan Woodside on the San Antonio Commanders roster. The Bengals drafted Smith in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. in 2017 we released him and signed him to our practice squad. That same year he told us to piss off and went and joined the 53 man roster of the Cleveland Browns. Injuries kept him from really coming into his own on our team but hopefully he can stay healthy for the Commanders season.

We are certain more will pop up as the league grows and games are watched. Hopefully this small list at least got you curious about the Alliance of American Football League. I know we will be watching. Below are the teams that will be taking the field this season to show us what an alternative or addition to the NFL may look like. All we know is thank God football is still here.
