Something in the Wynnd

The Cincinnati Bengals are continuing to keep busy this March. While they have largely looked at re-signing many of their own valued unrestricted free agents, they are continuing to keep their eyes on the periphery. An area in which the Bengals are looking to increase depth is on the defensive line. Cincinnati is looking at a veteran to potentially add a mix of youth and experience in Kerry Wynn.

He would be a natural selection having served under Defensive Coordinator Lou Anarumo. He played on New York's defense in which Anarumo was the secondary coach in 2018. So not a "direct" connection in terms of position but hell any connection helps. Kerry was originally an undrafted free agent pickup for the Giants in 2014 out of the University of Richmond. He has largely played off of the edge, but as Jordan Ranaan notes, Wynn has versatility, in terms of getting to the passer from multiple spots and in special teams ability.

As a rotational player thus far in his NFL career he has amassed 4.5 sacks and 140 total tackles in the past five seasons. He set a career-high in tackles with 53 in 2015, as well as a best in sacks in 2018 with 1.5 (tied the mark in 2014). So he is a grinder

To us this is a goofy pickup if it happens. We have a potential future Hall of Famer Geno Atdkins and some solid outside play as well. I see our needs a linebacker but who knows the reasoning behind meeting with Wynn. Would he be a game changer? Probably not... We may not be the Cleveland Browns signing superstars right now but at least we are being semi-active in free agency. A thing we have not exactly been known for in the past...
