To Keep a Veteran

Brown in a state of ponder at practice

Last year the Bengals signed veteran line backer Preston Brown who previously hit the gridiron as a Buffalo Bill. From 2014-2017 he was with Buffalo prior to joining our squad for the 2018 season. Brown was productive until the injury bug hit him and the rest of our team for that matter, causing him to miss nine full games. He was inserted into the defense as the mike line backer on third downs in place of the suspended Vontze Burict. He missed the second and third game due to injury until he was finally placed on the I/R in week 10 following the absolute beat down by the Saints.

He is a little older (if you call 26 old) but experienced and definitely still has gas left in the tank if he can stay healthy. Now I do believe one of the needs that the Bengals have is at linebacker. If we draft a young stud to supplement the current corps than I think that guy and Preston along with Vigil and the gang could become a great second line of defense.

Brown played over 1000 snaps in four seasons with the bills proving he can stay healthy and be a productive member of a defense. He was great in the above mentioned third down situations against teams who were not in three receiver sets. The man even grew up a Cincinnati Bengals fan. This will assist the team in its current transition having a veteran guy who wants to be there. Think of him as not only a solid line backer option but a morale boost to the team as well.

Its anyone's guess as to who will get drafted by the Cincy squad with an entire new regime in place. If it is a line backer, awesome. If not so be it. None the less it is an exciting time to be a Cincinnati Bengals fan!
