Rounds two and three are down and the Bengals picks are in. Last night our staff traded back with the Broncos from the 42nd to the 52nd to grab Drew Sample, a tight end out of Washington. No one on this planet beside the organization itself knows or understands this he thought process and why the hell we drafted this kid but ok. Maybe there is a method to their madness. We have Eifert and a couple solid “backups” behind him like Uzomah so they have left us all drooling trying to figure out the “why” here. Sample as a player is an in-line tight end who's a good blocker but it's up in the air as to whether or not he can contribute as a pass-catcher. In his I am season he did grab 25 balls amassing 252 receiving yards if that’s any indication.
Round three was an exciting pickup. We identified and filled a need in the replacing of Vontaze Burfict. We will fill that slot with Wolfpack outside linebacker Germaine Pratt. As a team our linebackers were shit last season, there is no sugar coating it. Vigil and Brown were beat up and Taze was fat and slow. Burfict was released earlier this spring, so someone will have to step into his spot. Pratt, a former safety that has since transitioned to outside linebacker is incredibly versatile. speed, strength and the ability to hunt down the ball will be a welcome addition to the defense. The Bengals say they don't have a set position for him yet however, taking into consideration the circus the backup linebackers showed us last season he has a shot at hitting the field immidiatly. Hopefully making an impact. Wonder if he will keep wearing the number 3? That would be wild.
